About Me
Hello! I'm Katy, the owner of Pets Are People Too. I'm a lifelong animal lover and advocate. Nothing gives me a greater sense of fulfillment than seeing pets safe, comfortable, and happy.
​Animals are a huge (and essential) part of my life. I began riding horses when I was eight years old and started working on the farm at 14. I began pet sitting when I was 20, and from there moved into the veterinary field. I have been in the veterinary field for over 15 years in a variety of roles. I've worked as a large and small animal vet assistant as well as having administrative and management roles. I've worked in emergency animal hospitals, privately owned and corporate owned animal hospitals- all the while pet sitting on the side.

I made the transition to providing pet care full time because it allows me to have the greatest impact helping pets and their caregivers in a variety of meaningful ways. I love nothing more than getting to know a pet's personality, likes and dislikes, and doing whatever I can to help them (and their caregivers) feel safe, comfortable, and happy. That looks different to every family. Sometimes that means knowing just the right number of seconds to microwave the canned food so it's that perfect temp; sometimes its daily pics and updates to pet parents; or taking a pup's favorite route for a walk; or helping to educate caregivers on vaccines, preventatives, training, or pet insurance.

Katy has been a pet sitter (one dog, two cats) for us several times and we have always been more than satisfied with her services. The normally-shy animals took to her fast and quickly developed a bond. She made several trips a day, and when our return was unexpectedly delayed, she took our dog to her home where he made fast friends with her pooch.

Here by popular demand- Paw Wax!
I began making paw wax a few years ago for my dogs, and to gift to friends and clients for their dogs. Many folks asked how they could get more- and the popularity of paw wax has really taken off!
During these hard New England winters, snow, ice, rock salt and ice melt can do a number on pups' feet. I make paw wax with 4 natural ingredients (Beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, and olive oil) to nourish and protect paw pads. Just apply a small amount to paw pads and in between toes to help prevent snow and ice buildup and paw irritation.
